Help! What are good investments today? I just want to maintain the value of my money …?
Help, I lost all my hard earned savings! My portfolio: 30% in cash. Interest rate is below inflation to lose cash progressively its value. Add falling dollar abroad and you have more than 10% loss per annum of 10% in Icelandic currency that yields 15%. Maybe that the interest rate is higher than inflation, but in the last two weeks, the currency has lost 20% to U.S. $! Experts say it will drop further. 15% stocks. Invest in an index fund is now down 10% in dollars (20% in real terms). And I read that stocks are still overvalued. 5% in gold and oil through a forex broker. The volatility is so high that my deposit got annihilated twice, even if the products are up long term. They are now very expensive, should I still take them and hope to the lost? 40% in real estate. I bought a year ago in cash, no mortgage. Its value has declined since then, in $ and in real terms more … seems there no good investments there days. How come?
The global economy is currently in a downward spiral so that is why it is difficult not to lose money. When the market is like that, you need to due diligence or patience. Or simply sit and Ride Out market until the next upturn or really go after the witnesses recently. I removed all my investments except my 401k (it would be stupid) and I try to buy low-power real estate and leasing. I'll buy a new home 1800 sq ft house in a growing area of 60K. When the market begins I'm going to go sell and hope to have some equity. I wish I had better news for you.
